Why barefoot shoes?
Children usually start walking when they are between 12 and 15 months old. In order for them to be able to do this, they need a lot of practice; they need to move, crawl, fall and get back up.
The best thing is when the child gets to experience this at his own pace and can feel the surface directly against his feet, without anything in between.
In countries like Sweden, children often go barefoot for a long time, which is positive. When children go barefoot or use non-slip socks, it helps them develop their muscles and strengthen their little bodies.
But it is not always possible to let the children go barefoot. Sometimes we adults have to consider safety aspects, and then the idea of shoes comes into play. This is where barefoot shoes play an important role. Unlike many conventional shoes, barefoot shoes are designed to give the feeling of walking barefoot, which promotes children's development.
Here are some characteristics of barefoot shoes:
- Wide toe box
- Zero drop/zero heel difference
- Flexible soles
- Non-slip
On our website you will find Babybooties that can be used from birth.
These usually work as a sock (that doesn't fall off!) to protect the little feet. For children from 6 months and up, they are non-slip to protect little feet as they begin to crawl, when barefoot is not an option.
You will then find children's shoes under two categories: First steps and Children .
Keep in mind that First Steps is intended for children who have just started taking their first steps and can no longer walk barefoot, until they have walked for about a year. At that point, the child usually has better balance and is more mobile, which causes the shoes to wear more quickly, as they are designed to mimic the feeling of walking barefoot.
After that, you will find the next step under the Children category.
Still barefoot shoes, but more durable and adapted for little adventurers with a lot of running in their legs!
